Curbcut for WordPress
Curbcut for WordPress checks the post or page you edit against WCAG 2.2 from inside the editor. Every finding says what is wrong, who it affects and how to fix it, with a link to the W3C guidance. It works in the block editor and in the classic editor, and needs WordPress 6.6 or later and PHP 7.4 or later.
Install: in your dashboard open Plugins → Add New, search for “Curbcut” and click Install, or download it from wordpress.org/plugins/curbcut. The directory lists the plugin once its first review by the wordpress.org team is done.
Free features
- Check now: the Accessibility panel in the block editor sidebar (or the Curbcut box on classic edit screens) checks the post and shows the issues counted by impact and grouped by WCAG success criterion.
- Explanations: each issue opens to what is wrong, who it affects, the fix in the editor (which block setting to change) and the fix in the markup.
- Show in preview: opens the post preview with an outline and a numbered badge on the failing element. Only logged-in users who can edit the post see it; visitors never do.
- Check on save: optional, per user, off by default. The check runs again after you save; it never blocks saving or publishing.
- Settings → Curbcut: WCAG level (A, AA or AAA), best-practice rules, which roles see results, the default for check on save, and a button that deletes all stored results.
The free plugin has no limits, never expires, and needs no account.
Pro features
Curbcut Pro for WordPress costs $79 per year for one site. It is a separate plugin, sold and delivered by Freemius.
- Site scan (Tools → Accessibility scan): checks every published post, page, public custom post type, taxonomy archive and the home page, one page at a time in your browser, with progress, pause and resume.
- Site-wide results: all open issues of the site with filters by rule, criterion, impact and post type, and an accessibility column in the post and page lists.
- CSV export of the current filter.
- Scan history for 12 months with a trend chart, and an optional weekly digest email sent by your own site.
Buy Curbcut Pro for WordPress ($79/year)
After the purchase, Freemius emails you the Pro plugin and its license key. Upload the Pro plugin under Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, activate it and enter the key. Updates of Pro come through your dashboard while the license is active.
How it works
The checks run in your browser while you are logged in: Curbcut loads a preview of the post from your own site, tests it with the bundled open-source axe-core engine and saves the results as post meta in your database. Nothing is added to the pages your visitors see.
Privacy
The free plugin contacts no outside server. It bundles the Freemius SDK, which shows an opt-in screen after activation: if you click Allow & Continue, the data that screen lists (your name and email, the site address, the WordPress, PHP and plugin versions) goes to Freemius; Skip sends nothing and every feature keeps working. The Pro plugin also sends its license key to Freemius to activate it and to get updates. Details: privacy policy.
Limits
- Automated checks find only part of all WCAG failures. Test with a keyboard and a screen reader as well.
- Curbcut does not make a site compliant and does not change your content.
- If a security plugin forbids framing previews, the check opens the preview in a new tab instead.
